Spirit vs. Flesh

“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. – 1 Corinthians 2:16  (ESV)

Throughout 1 Corinthians, Paul urges the church to abandon the “human thinking” that troubles them and contributes to the issues they face. The main concern addressed in chapter 3 verses 1-4 is the conflict between the flesh and the spirit. Paul essentially tells the church that being saved does not imply spiritual maturity. While they still have the capacity to behave like “people of the flesh,” that does not mean they should do so.
