Acts chapter 2 gives us a glimpse of the church right after Jesus ascended into heaven. Jesus instructed them to wait together in the city of Jerusalem for the promised coming of the Holy Spirit.

“When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” – Acts 2:1-4

In verses 42-47 of Acts chapter 2, this same group of believers, now filled with the Holy Spirit, continued to grow as they came together in fellowship.

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47

When we look towards the needs of others, we become like-minded, we stand in one accord, and we are unified in the mind of Christ Jesus our Lord! Amazing things can then happen for the cause of Christ.

“Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”- Matthew 18:19-20
